Design Spotlight
Step through the gates of Village Landing and you’ll notice something quietly powerful – a sense of harmony between architecture and the natural world. At the heart of this vision is a carefully composed landscape plan by Biophilia Collective, rooted in native ecology, seasonal beauty, and mindful sustainability.
This is not landscaping as ornament – it’s a living design philosophy that supports wellness, biodiversity, and daily delight.
The Rain Garden at the End of the Laneway
At the far end of the lane, where stone meets soil, a sugar maple rises as the anchoring feature in a lush rain garden. This tree, highlighted by Biophilia’s founder in our recent site visit, was selected not only for its elegant canopy and seasonal vibrancy, but for the ecological role it plays in managing water and stabilizing the garden ecosystem.
The rain garden itself is one of several permeable features across the property, designed to handle stormwater naturally while creating a soft, immersive edge to the lane.
A Native and Pollinator-Focused Planting Strategy
80% of the planting area at Village Landing features native and pollinator-friendly species, including Pacific dogwood, serviceberry, evergreen huckleberry, red flowering currant, and kinnikinnick. This palette is intentionally low-maintenance, climate-resilient, and designed to support local bees, birds, and butterflies.
The result is a landscape that feels alive and responsive, one that grows more beautiful over time and asks very little in return.
A Canopy of Shade, Texture, and Seasonality
Across the property, over 20 new trees will be introduced, creating a varied green canopy that includes Japanese Katsura, Yellow Bird magnolia, Laceleaf maple, and Espresso Kentucky coffee trees. These trees were selected not only for form and texture, but for their ability to complement the site’s architecture and provide dappled shade in key outdoor areas.
Whether you’re arriving home on a summer afternoon or enjoying morning coffee on your patio, the landscape is designed to enrich these small, everyday rituals.
A Living Framework for Quiet Luxury
Just like the interiors of Village Landing, the landscape is a study in intentional design, where every element has purpose and presence. From permeable stone pavers and front door planters to architectural pillars wrapped in greenery, each detail serves the broader story of easy, beautiful living.
It’s a place where form follows function, and nature is always close at hand.
